The aim of my blog is to publish reflections on politics and related phenomena on the go, to be further reflected on – either on the blog, over the email or where ever the readers may be. I started the blog as a researcher of politics, with a specialisation on Hungary and the Central and Eastern Europe, as well as discourse theory.
For years, blogging I’ve thought to be out dated – besides, I never was really good at it. Too much to say and responsibility for other venues to write to (Ydin magazine). And then there came facebook with possibility to interact. Now, I no longer care. These are my reflections.
Also, for years, I didn’t know whether I should write in Finnish – and participate in the Finnish discussion, where few bother to read English although they can well – or English. Now I think I’ll stick to English to claim sufficient distance to the object of study. If you have to explain things for a general public that does not have prior knowledge, you perhaps start understanding what’s going on better yourself.
Currently, I’m working in Public Administration and Organisation Studies and Political Science, teaching at the University of Helsinki, but I also run a project on populism in comparative context.
Hope you’ll enjoy the site!
